Midway through spring semester, many students leave the harsh winter weather of Ohio to venture to a warmer climate. Coming back to campus with a tan while snow continues to fall, they anticipate the end of the year and sunshine of summer.

Spring break is here, and more than anything else, students look forward to a week-long break from schoolwork and classes. Sophomore Michelle Finney will be traveling to Gatlinburg, Tenn., with a group of friends.

"I'm really excited to go to Gatlinburg with a ton of people and to be able to get away from school for awhile," she said.

The sports teams, while still in season, will also travel to various destinations while enjoying the break. The indoor track and field team will be traveling to Jacksonville, Fla., for the North Florida Open meet March 5 and 6.

The men and women's crew teams will bask in the Florida sunshine at their regattas March 13 at Palm Bay against the Florida Institute of Technology.

The softball team has a full schedule in Kissimmee, Fla., playing 10 different teams March 7 through 12. The baseball team will travel west to Abilene, Texas, March 8 through 10 for five games, and then head to Memphis, Tenn., for two games on March 12 and 13.

While some students travel to the coast for break, others turn to the comfort of home.

"I'm from New Jersey, which is further away than most students, and don't get to go home very often. I'm looking forward to going home and seeing my family for a week," junior Zohare Khan said.

Sophomore Sara Harp will also be going home for break, but for more conventional reasons.

"I decided it's better for me to go home this break so I can conserve money. I'm going to Ghana this summer and need to keep saving for my trip," she said.

No matter where the destination, spring break contains the same meaning to students - a breath of fresh air before coming back to finish out the year.
